My mom, sister Becca, her husband Richard, and I went on a ten-day cruise up the coast of Norway. Immediately upon returning to London, we flew back to Oslo, rented a car and drive for 3-4 hours to Telemark County, to find the ancestral farm of my great-grandfather, Tarje Vik. Tarje left Norway, probably in the 1880's, to farm in North Dakota.
My cousin Don Vik and his family made this trip in the 1980's to discover that the Vik Farm is still in the family. Don gave us the contact information of our third cousins. The farm in now a campground. Our third cousin Anne, and her husband Bjarne, live next to the lake, and their eldest daughter, who has inherited the farm, has built a house overlooking the lake. This is the view of the valley approaching the Vik Farm. The campground us up ahead, on the right, next to a beautiful Lake.
